Denver Day 3 – The Game

Rico | Life,Travel | Sunday, October 21st, 2007

Steelers lost, but put up a good fight. Final score 31 – 28 Broncos. Boo.

It was a really good game, and our seats were great. A bit cold, but we survived. Worst part was waiting over an hour after the game for a taxi!

Here’s the pics (turned out kinda blurry dang it!):

Denver Day 2 – The Aquarium and 16th st. mall

Rico | Life,Travel | Saturday, October 20th, 2007

Today we started out by going to the Denver Downtown Aquarium. It was really cool, and I didn’t have to walk on my crutches cause Jo pushed me in a wheel chair! Awesome!

Then we went to lunch at El Senor Sol’s Mexican restaurant, and then caught a taxi to the 16th street mall. The walking got to me there, so we made our way back to the hotel and chilled for a while. We watched RSL beat Colorado for the Rocky Mountain Cup :) . Then we went to dinner at Sam’s #3.

Oh yeah, so today it was 75 degrees and super nice. Tomorrow for the game it’s supposed to be 30 degrees and 2 inches of snow. Booo! We’re going to REI in the morning to get warmer and waterproof stuff.

Here are some pics from today:

1st day in Denver

Rico | Life,Travel | Friday, October 19th, 2007

Hi all,

We are in Denver :) . Jo and I got here around 1 pm today. Our hotel, The Curtis, is awesome. We are on the eight floor, which is sci fi themed! We went to lunch at the Rock Bottom Brewery, and then came back to the room for a nap. After our nap we watched “the next great american band” on Fox. HAHA!!

Then we went to The Corner Office bar and restaurant here at the hotel and had some appetizers and a drink. Kinda taking it easy tonight. Crutches suck!

Check back for pictures and stuff. I’ll post another update tomorrow.

2 week update

Rico | Life,Rico's Rants | Saturday, October 13th, 2007

Its been two weeks since I had surgery for my leg. It is definitely getting better, but slowly. I’ll be on crutches for another month at least. Crutches suck.

Speaking of which, I am really out of shape. Last night Jo and I went and saw Larry the Cable Guy at the Energy Solutions arena. He was damn funny, and wrong in so many ways, but hilarious. The opening act who’s name I can’t remember was really funny too. Anyway, we rode trax, and seriously, the walk from trax to our seats just about floored me. I was so tired. And after the show I about passed out walking back to trax. Walking on crutches is really tiring, and a lot harder than it looks.

That worries me, cause next week Jo and I are going to Denver to for a short vacation, and to see the Steelers play the Broncos. I am super excited, but also a bit nervous cause going through the airport, flying, and getting around in Denver is going to be a bit harder than we planned since I’ll be on crutches. Of course we will manage, but man I really just need to get my lazy ass in shape.

I am going to try to get back to work this coming week. The only hard part will be having my leg / foot on the ground and not elevated all day. It likes to swell still, and hurts a lot more when it isn’t elevated. But I’ll manage. I’m really getting sick of sitting on the couch all day. There isn’t much on day time television, and you can only play so much Wii without being able to stand and move around…

Again, thank you all for your words of encouragement and offers of assistance. You’ve all made this whole ordeal much more bearable.

Golf is a contact sport

Rico | Family,Life,Rico's Rants | Monday, October 1st, 2007

Some of you may have heard, and yes it is true, I did break my leg playing Golf this last Saturday. I know it sounds kind of humorous, and I can see how it sounds that way, I mean who breaks their leg playing golf? … But I’ve had a hard time with it.

See, this is my left leg. The one I just had surgery on for a torn ACL last January. It broke in two places. I had to have surgery and was in surgery for 3 hours. I now have a titanium rod running the length of my leg from the knee to the ankle, and five screws in there too. But the biggest bitch is that I just got done rehabbing from the ACL surgery and was looking forward to playing soccer soon and skiing this winter. So, I don’t really find this funny at all.

I was in the hospital for almost 30 hours too. And that is reason enough to ruin anyone’s weekend. Especially when you have a nurse who was pretty much non existent. My wife is awesome though, and she is taking great care of me…

Also, I’ve heard it mentioned that I was drinking and that’s why I had my “Cart Accident”. Those rumors are greatly exaggerated. I had a couple drinks and a cigar, and was definitely pleasantly buzzed, but I was not drunk. It was raining really hard and was really cold. I was driving the cart fast, and I was turning kind of sharp, so yeah It’s my fault. But I didn’t think my cart was going to spin out of control and throw me out of it. (yeah I bet that looked hilarious)

Anyway, I’m sure I’ll laugh about it some day, but its going to take a while. It is a very serious spiral break and I am going to be laid up for quite some time.

For those of you that I’ve talked to or have been in contact with by text or through others, thanks for all your kind wishes. I really appreciate it.
