What will I fail at in 2008?

Rico | Family,Life,Rico's Rants | Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

Every year I come up with some great resolutions for the new year. And every year, like most people, I fail at achieving those goals. But this year will be different! Really!

I could include the usuals, and I will… but I wanted to also include a few different odd goals. This way I can win some and lose some… Woo! Here goes:

  1. Lose Weight – this is priority number one because a lot of the other goals will be based on achieving this one. Specifically, I need to lose 15 to 20 lbs. Since I will be working from home for most of the year it should be easier. Yes, I won’t be as active throughout the day since I’ll be at home. However, I will be eating way more healthy as I won’t be eating fast food or any of that crap. Also, I have a great work out room at home… So I can take breaks from the ‘puter to lift weights or run on the treadmill, etc. Go Will Power!
  2. Reduce Clutter – I have really decided that my general happiness varies in relation to the clutter I am surrounded by. I have started cleaning out my home office to get ready for me to work from home, and it already makes me happier to be in that room. I figure if we take it one room at a time and just through shit away, or have a big garage sale this spring, or both – I can achieve this goal.
  3. Get Greener – I have been trying really hard to get better about this one. Just ask my wife. She is so sick of me lecturing to her about what we can do to save the earth, save power, and save money at the same time. It’s just something I’m passionate about, and I can’t help being a bit preachy about it. I even gave my family CFL’s for Christmas this year. HA! My personal goals are to reduce my own carbon footprint. Working from home will help reduce the amount of gas I use and the amount of pollution I contribute from driving. We already recycle a ton at home, but there is always more we can do. Check this post for ideas!
  4. Don’t break any bones or tear any ligaments - 2006 and 2007 were rough on my left leg. Torn ACL and broken Tib / Fib… fun! In 2008, I my left leg will go unblemished! And hopefully the rest will too. Losing weight and getting back in shape will help I hope. I plan to start playing basketball, soccer, and all that again soon. I’m also thinking about going skiing before the winter is through… We’ll see.
  5. Spend more quality time with my wife and step-daughter – We are a busy family. Every weekend it seems like there is something going on that we have to attend. A lot of those things are quality time so don’t get me wrong. but I want to focus more on little things like going to movies or to the park or camping or hiking or fishing, etc.
  6. Brew good beer – Jo got me a brewing kit for Christmas. The whole set up. I know it will be a learning process, but I plan to master it. It will be a fun hobby, and productive too! :)
  7. Take awesome pictures – I recently got a new camera that I love. It’s a digital SLR and it takes fabulous pictures. I plan to get more serious about my photography hobby.

That’s all for now. I’ll add more as I think of them.

Happy 2008 everyone! Best of luck on achieving your goals!
